in NY

After a marathon flight SIN - KUL - ARN - EWR, I am finally here.

NY is so lovely in the spring. It's a side of this warped city I haven't seen, and am getting to love, and I almost can't bear the thought that I'll be gone in a coupla weeks.

For now, though, it'll be nice enjoying the sunshine in Central Park. And throwing myself into the almost unnavigable rivers of UN meetings, of course.

Off to my first meeting with the CSD Youth Caucus - looking forward to meeting other mad radical greenie lefties!

The slow-motion trap

Very quickly now -

Yet another gem by Blumenthal (View an ad to read). Will comment later. Go see.

(Apologies - it's a little dated)

QOTD

On so-called youth leaders who are in it not for the cause, but for themselves. Even if it means disempowering others to get there.
i have no (more) time to waste on self-absorbed power-hungry losers who put on a hypocritical do-gooder mask to achieve their self-indulgent power wanks

Note to self: Never - let yourself get to that. Don't you. Fucking. Ever.

We have acceded

To the Kyoto Protocol!

As a non-Annex I country, we won't actually be bound by collective emissions reductions obligations, or directly cut deals in the emissions trading barter.

But, this positive step (by this government!) to engage in the shared battle plan for climate change by the international community, to me, is just... fantastic. At the very least, we're now able to get involved in Clean Development Mechanism projects with Annex I-ers, and start the whole CER (Certified Emissions Reductions) ball rolling.

Simple things make me happy.

Next on my wish list: India and China get tagged as Economies-in-Transition, making them Annex I-ers. Do we have to wait til after 2012 though?
